LeROY—The Marais des Cygnes Valley Lady Trojans began postseason play at the Class 2A Regional Oct. 20 at Southern Coffey County in LeRoy.

The Lady Trojans went 2-1 at the tournament, taking a bye in the first round, beating Hartford in the semifinals and battling top-seeded Southern Coffey County in the championship.

“The girls played really hard and fought for every point,” said MdCV Coach Melissa Criqui. “They should be very proud of themselves.”

MdCV held a 12-15 record when the tournament was seeded last week, earning them the No. 2 seed and one of two first-round byes in the six-team tournament. The Lady Trojans began competition with Hartford in the second round, beating the Lady Jaguars 2-1 (28-26, 20-25, 25-13) to advance to the semifinals, and secure a space in the 2A Sub-State at Flinthills.

In the championship, MdCV took on a Southern Coffey County team with just three losses. The Lady Trojans fell in the first set, 25-17, and battled the second to a 30-28 finish. The top two teams advance from each of the 16 Class 1A Regionals.

The loss put the Lady Trojans (15-19) into Sub-State A at Flinthills Saturday, lining up a first-round match with Hutchinson’s Central Christian (37-2) at 2 p.m. Saturday in Rosalia. Southern Coffey County (36-4) will play McPherson’s Elyria Christian at 3 p.m.
