A semi trailer carrying part of a wind turbine support tower left the road along U.S. Highway 56 west of Osage County April 5, causing the trailer to become unhitched and roll into an adjacent field.
Eastbound and westbound U.S. 56 will be closed to through traffic between state Highway 31 and U.S. 56 junction, in Osage County, and state Highway 99 and U.S. 56 junction in Lyon County from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 12-13.
Crews will be removing a semi trailer that rolled off the road April 5. The semi trailer was carrying a section of a wind turbine tower, which rolled off the embankment into an adjacent field. The tower and trailer have a combined weight of 240,000 lbs.
Drivers must use alternate routes during the road closure. There will be no marked detour, but a suggested detour for traffic is to take U.S. 56, in Osage County, to Burlingame, then west on K-31 to K-99, then back south on K-99 to U.S. 56. Eastbound local traffic can access U.S. 56 from K-31 in Osage County to state Highway 78 in Lyon County; westbound local traffic can access U.S. 56 from the Kansas Turnpike to K-99 in Lyon County.
Project work is scheduled to be completed on April 13, weather permitting.
