Harveyville
Fair begins Friday
Round up your herd and bring them down to the 72nd Annual Harveyville
Fair, Sept. 25-26. This year’s theme is centered around the
country and western lifestyle.
Friday night events begin with the opening of the exhibit hall,
4-7 p.m., at the firehouse for exhibitors to bring in items they
would like to enter. The entries will be displayed 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday. Friday night also has the crowd pleasing event, the Strong
Man and Woman competition. This year contestants’ can enter
the categories of tug-a-war, chin ups, hay bale toss, and arm wrestling.
Each event winner will receive a shirt.
Saturday, frog jump and turtle race will start off the morning’s
fun, followed by the free children’s activities. Activities
will include a clown, sketch artist, and games.
Pro wrestlers are back with performances starting at 11 a.m. and
4 p.m., with shows lasting about two hours. Pick your favorite wrestlers
and cheer them on in the ring.
Royalty will be crowned at 12:30 p.m., followed by the children’s
parade and the main parade at 2 p.m. Participants should be at the
old school at 1:30 p.m.
After the parade, there will be a watermelon feed and a water brigade
for all to participate in. There will be more family games in the
afternoon, including water balloon and egg toss.
The evening entertainment will begin around 7 p.m., with a community
ice-cream social and a musical performance by the band, Close Enough.
Throughout the day there will be live demonstrations including butter
making, yarn spinning, chainsaw carving and more. There will be
crafts and informational vendors, along with several food vendors.
