Osage County’s night sky will be illuminated with fireworks Saturday, as local residents help the United States celebrate its 233rd birthday.

In the north part of the county, Overbrook will offer a fireworks display at the city’s ballpark. Spectators can park at the ball diamond or adjacent to Overbrook Attendance Center. A concession stand will be open during the evening, with the fireworks display set to begin at dark. The town also will celebrate with a children’s bike parade at 9:30 a.m. From 1-5 p.m., the city’s swimming pool will be open for free swimming.

Both of the county’s federal reservoirs will also host fireworks displays. At Pomona Lake, spectators can enjoy two fireworks shows. Pomona State Park fireworks will be shot from near Lighthouse Bay Marina; a viewing area will be provided near the marina.

The park’s celebration will also include a horseshoe tournament at Kansa Campground. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the tournament beginning at 10 a.m.

At 4 p.m., a decorated boat parade will be held near the marina. All boaters are invited to participate. Visitors to the park are required to have a daily vehicle permit. Spectators are reminded that all other fireworks are prohibited in the state park.

On the other side of the lake, North Shore Marina will also present a fireworks display. During the show, the road to the marina will be closed to traffic. Spectators can watch the show from near the marina or in recreation areas, but parking alongside roads or on the dam is prohibited. During the weekend holiday, beginning on Friday, the marina will offer a pancake feed daily from 7-9 a.m. and hamburgers and hot dogs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. Donations will be accepted. Friday night’s entertainment at the marina will also feature a band, Borderline, beginning at 8 p.m. Also Saturday, the marina will offer children’s games and face painting.

Osage County’s fireworks festival will be held 4-11 p.m. Saturday in Eisenhower State Park at Melvern Lake. Food and craft booths will be at the site. From 6-9 p.m. will be entertainment, featuring a karaoke contest 6-8 p.m. For children, there will be games and other entertainment. Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and insect repellant and enjoy the show. The fireworks display will begin at dark. Daily vehicle permits are required in the state park.

Although not in Osage County, Lebo will offer a celebration for county residents in that locale. Lebo’s Stars and Stripes Extravaganza will begin early Saturday with a fishing derby. Numerous activities will be ongoing throughout the day, culminating in West Park with a fireworks show. Lawn chairs are recommended. The celebration continues Sunday with the Firecracker Run, free swimming at the city’s pool, and a tractor and truck pull.
