The Lady Indians with their regional championship trophy.

RANTOUL—The Osage City Lady Indians swept through the Class 2A Regional at Central Heights Monday and Tuesday, earning a first round bye as the No. 1 seed before cruising past Wellsville and Central Heights.

Wellsville beat Burlington 5-4 to advance to Tuesday’s semifinal game with Osage City, but had little left for the Lady Indians in the 9-1 loss.

Osage City went on to play the hosts, Central Heights, in the championship. Central Heights had advanced on a 10-0 shutout of Northern Heights and a 10-3 win against Jayhawk-Linn.

The championship, however, was all Lady Indians, as Osage City shut out the Lady Vikings 7-0, securing their spot in the state.

Osage City (17-3) will join Silver Lake (17-4), Rock Creek (17-6), Halstead (22-1), Medicine Lodge (22-2) and Frontenac (14-7) at state next week, with two regionals left to be completed Wednesday.

Osage County's other softball team fell in the first two rounds of regionals this week. Santa Fe Trail was eliminated in a 8-1 loss to Ottawa in the regional semifinals Tuesday at Ottawa; Lyndon fell 6-4 to Valley Falls Monday at Alma.

The Class 3A State Softball Championship will be played May 29-30 at the Twin Oaks Complex, 3601 Anderson, Manhattan.
