Overbrook man fatally injured in accident

Anthony Culbertson, 21, Overbrook, was fatally injured when the 1997 Ford vehicle he was driving rolled and he was ejected.

The accident occurred about 4:55 p.m. March 5 on Paulen Road about a half-mile north of Highway 56.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and passengers told Culbertson to slow down. He hit the brakes too hard, KHP said. The vehicle left the road, became airborne and rolled.

The highway patrol report listed the passengers in the vehicle as Marissa Dehart, 15, of Rossville; and Alyssa Wilson, 18, Jayna Thompson, 17, and Hannah Harrington, 17, all of Topeka.

According to the report, all four passengers were injured; Dehart and Harrington were ejected. They were transported to Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center and St. Francis Health Center in Topeka. Hospital spokespersons reported all four teens had been discharged as of Monday.

Wilson was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt.
