Osage County to celebrate 150th Birthday

Osage County’s sesquicentennial birthday will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Burlingame Schuyler Museum annex, 237 W. Fremont. Guests will be taken back in time to the county’s early history.

Richard Stewart, author and historian, will be the guest speaker. He will talk about Osage County’s connection to the McGee family from Missouri. In 1854, Frey P. McGee and his brother, Mobillon McGee, purchased claims and established a tavern and toll bridge over the creek. Stewart will also tell about the border wars.

Members of the Osage County Historical Society will add more stories to the celebration.

Eileen Davis, president of Osage County Historical Society (OCHS), will tell the early history of Osage County.

Linda Fagan will talk about her ancestors, the pioneering Bratton family. She is also a board member of the Schuyler Museum.

Jean Timm, treasurer of OCHS, will discuss the 110 Mile Creek Crossing, which is exactly 110 miles from Fort Osage, Mo., the starting point of the Santa Fe Trail.

Exhibits in the Burlingame Schuyler Museum will be open to the public. Soup and cinnamon rolls will be provided with a free-will donation appreciated.
