Burlingame Elementary students spent celebrated Kansas Day Jan. 29 with visits from a variety of presenters at the Schuyler Museum.

Gary Buek, Burlingame (right) demonstrated grain-grinding; Gilbert “Bud” Masters showcased hand-made knives and canes; and Donna Bartee demonstrated a hand-pumed washing machine.

Jack Williamson, Uniserv director for the the Kansas National Education Association and member of the Holmes Brigade Civil War living history group, presented Bleeding Kansas as a free soldier.

“The kids have been great,” Williamson said. “If I lose their attention, I can fire off one of the caps and I’ve got it right back.”

Jan Kohler was also a presenter.
