At the Jan. 21 special meeting of the Marais des Cygnes Valley USD 456 Board of Education, the board approved offering a contract to Darrel Finch for the position of superintendent of schools and transportation director for the district. Finch was the only applicant with superintendent experience of the 13 applicants.

The offer was made to Finch the evening of the special meeting. He signed a two-year contract with the district on Jan. 23. He will finish the 2008-09 school year as superintendent and secondary principal at Madison USD 386.

“I have always been impressed over the years with the people who represent the Marais des Cygnes Valley school district,” Finch said. “When the opportunity to be superintendent in the district arose, it was intriguing to me.

“I love the Madison community and the people. It has been very good to work with the Madison school district,” he added.

“Darrel will do a good job,” said Ted Vannocker, current Marais des Cygnes Valley school district superintendent. “I have known him for several years, and have worked with him on the Lyon County League and on different superintendent meetings and organizations. I am looking forward to him taking over. I told him that things will be in good shape when he comes.”
