The Burlingame Fire Department responded to a structure fire call
just before 9 a.m. Aug. 8 along rural Crawford Rd., Burlingame.
Firefighters arrived at the home of Michelle Friedli, to find the
home engulfed in flames. A call for assistance was made immediately
to Osage City, Carbondale and Harveyville fire departments. The
Osage County Sheriff’s Office, along with the emergency response
team and the Red Cross, also responded.
A neighbor had seen flames in the area of the Friedli’s home
and called 911. No one was home at the time of the fire. Friedli,
owner of T3V Productions, along with her children and cast members,
were at her office when a friend, Mary Fuentes, informed them of
the fire. Burlingame Police Chief Jon Shaffer contact Fuentes to
confirm no one was in the house.
Carl McNorton, with the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office,
said the fire was determined to be incendiary, most likely arson.
McNorton said there was an alleged burglary that occurred around
the same time as the fire was set. He said an insurance investigator
was on the scene Tuesday to determine loss among other issues.
“These fire departments that responded were a great help supplying
manpower and especially water, which was a great help when you fight
a fire in the country,” said Burlingame Fire Chief Jim Strohm.
“We had water coming out our ears. That tells you what great
fire departments we have in the surrounding area.”
The fire continues to be investigated by the state fire marshal’s
office and the burglary is under investigation by sheriff’s
deputy Kevin Gebhardt. Anyone with information about the fire or
burglary is asked to call Osage County Crimestoppers at (785) 828-4864.
