Record numbers attended Burlingame’s second annual National Night Out Tuesday evening in Jones Park. The free celebration offered games, inflatable toys, live music and a meal for around 500 who attended, twice the attendance of last year.

“We went door-to-door Sunday to invite each family in the community,” event organizer Brandi Summers said.

“Tonight was intended to bring the community together,” Burlingame Police Chief Jon Shaffer said. “It’s a great way to meet your neighbors.

“We want people to see that we’re human and like to have fun, too,” he added. “We all need to work together to stop crime.”
