They played together in the first game of the season. Now they’re both playing in the postseason.

With a district-clinching performance Oct. 23 the Osage City Indians already knew they were in. Lyndon joined them as the only other team to extend their season with a domination 53-0 win over Immaculata Oct. 29.

Both teams finished their district as the runner up with just one loss, both taking on the top team from the opposing district. This also means first-round road trips for each team.

Lyndon completed their district with a 1-1 record, with Valley Falls taking first at 2-0. The Tigers will travel to play an 8-1 Centralia team at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The Tigers concluded their regular season with a 53-0 win against Immaculata Oct. 29 in Leavenworth. Lyndon scored 8 unanswered touchdowns, seven in the first half, to finish the season at 4-5.

Derek Banzhaf led the way, rushing for 172 yards and 3 touchdowns, with Nick Walsh rushing for 140 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Osage City finished 2-1 in their district after taking a 28-7 loss from undefeated Silver Lake. The Indians scored the first touchdown on a 2-yard run by Jordan Tice, and took a 7-7 tie into the half. Silver Lake scored three more touchdowns in the second half, with no answer from Osage City.

The Eagles shut down Osage City’s running game, holding Jordan Tice to just 35 yards and a touchdown, 64 yards short of the 2,000 mark for the first nine games. Tice was 8-16 passing for 143 yards, with 178 yards total offense.

In the realm of things the Indians had no control over, Osage City moved up to the top spot in the Flint Hills League Thursday, as Mission Valley took their second league loss, 41-27, to Council Grove. Osage City finished 5-1 in the league; Mission Valley and Council Grove tied for second at 5-2.

The Indians (6-3) will play at Central Heights (4-5) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Richmond.
