Vassar FunFest will be Oct. 24

Residents of Vassar are gearing up for the second annual Vassar FunFest, Oct. 24 at Vassar Schoolhouse. Proceeds from the event will go to schoolhouse improvements. Since last year’s FunFest, new windows have been installed. The FunFest will kick off at 11 a.m. with a costume parade. Register at 10:30 a.m. by the fire station. All ages are welcome to participate. This year an antique car show will be added to the event. Registration fee for the car show is $5 with prizes to be awarded at 3 p.m. A silent auction will again be held this year. For more information or to donate an item, contact Frances Summers at (785) 828-3418.

Following the parade, a costume judging contest will be held, with prizes to be awarded to the best costume from each age category and best costume for horse and rider.

Other FunFest activities include a pie contest, children’s craft activities and gourd painting inside the schoolhouse followed by games and relays and a small animal petting zoo outside the building. Free live entertainment will feature a sing-along with Dorothy from the “Wizard of Oz,” 12 p.m., Rascal, The Trick Pony show at 1:30 p.m., The Osage Prairie Revue gospel, bluegrass group from Pittsburg 1 p.m., and Lorena Prater Show with special guests Dave and Katie Wooge, and Russell Wolf from Burlington Opry 2-4 p.m.

Concessions (hot dogs, hamburgers and homemade chili and pies) are available throughout the day. The event will end at 4 p.m. with the great piñata bash for all children to enjoy. The committee asks parents to accompany children. Bring a lawn chair.

In the event of rain, the contest, crafts and entertainment will be moved inside the schoolhouse.
