“I am honored to be chosen as grand marshal,” Towne said. “I am truly committed to the community of Carbondale as well as being their mayor.”
She was born north of Carbondale on the family farm July 23, 1933. She began school at Elliott, which was a country school and later attended Carbondale grade school and high school from which she graduated in 1951.

She has one brother, John Nichols, Carbondale, who still lives on the family farm with his wife, Carolyn.

She married Harry Towne Jr., and they later divorced. She has a daughter Nancy Warren, also of Carbondale.

“I have been a foster mother for over 27 years and had many foster children,” Towne said.

She also has four grandsons and one granddaughter.

She worked for over 34 years at Security Benefit Group of Companies, Topeka and over eight years at Kohl’s Department Store, Topeka. She is now retired and enjoys doing work for the city and watching her grandchildren in sports. She is very active in her church, does volunteer work in the community and enjoys embroidering.
