Junction Township board limits compensation

Junction Township board members have approved a resolution limiting the amount of compensation they will receive for performing duties.

At the Aug. 4 meeting of the township board, it was decided that board members would not receive compensation for special meetings or performance of other services for the township. Although not paid for attending special meetings and other services, board members will be reimbursed for any necessary mileage, in the amount of 39 cents per mile, for performing those duties. Board members will continue to be paid $120 per meeting for the township’s 14 regular meetings held annually.

According to the resolution, the board “wishes to bring compensation for officers more in line with adjoining townships and Kansas compensation guidelines.”

Junction Township board members are Gary Summers, trustee, Don Croy, treasurer, and Ronald Mathe, clerk.

According to Croy, the board considered lowering the amount paid to board members for attending regular meetings, but decided to wait until the outcome of the county road unit maintenance petition, currently being circulated, is known. If the petition is successful, duties and responsibilities of township board members could change.
