Osage City teen wrecks, dies in stolen truck

LEBO—Osage County Sheriff’s Officers identified Cassandra Morgan, 18, Osage City, as the sole fatality in a grain truck accident that occurred at 12:25 a.m. Sunday at 333rd and Hoch Road, approximately three miles north of Lebo.

According to a press release issued by Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn, Morgan was northbound on Hoch Road in a 1966 International

grain truck carrying a half load of soybeans when the truck hit a guardrail. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene. The release also stated alcohol was possibly a factor in the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office, which is investigating the theft of the grain truck. Coffey County Sheriff Randy Rogers said the truck was stolen from a farm just north of Lebo.

Authorities ask that anyone with information about the theft or Morgan’s whereabouts prior to the accident to call the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at (785) 828-3121 or Crimestoppers at (877) OS-CRIME.

A fund to help pay for funeral expenses has been set up for Morgan’s family through Landmark National Bank, in Osage City.
