Burlingame woman killed
in one-vehicle accident


SCRANTON—A Burlingame woman died in conjunction with injuries received in a one-vehicle accident in rural Scranton at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Jennifer L. Beck, 24, Burlingame, was a passenger in a 1999 GMC Sierra Pickup driven by Daniel S. Mellies, 31, Overbook. Mellies’ pickup was southbound on Scranton Road, four miles south of Scranton, approaching a T-intersection at 189th St.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Mellies drove straight through the intersection, hitting an embankment head on. KHP reported there was no stop sign at the intersection, and that neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Beck and Mellies were both transported from the scene by air ambulance. Beck was taken to Stormont-Vail, Topeka, were she died at 4:45 a.m. Mellies was transported St. Francis Health Center, Topeka. His condition was not
