OSAGE CITY—The first winner in the Christmas on Us promotion brought his winning ticket to The Osage County Herald-Chronicle office last week to pick up $50 in scrip money to be spent at any of the participating businesses.

Al Bogren, Burlingame, claimed one of the four numbers hidden in last week’s advertisements. Nine $50 instant prizes remain up for grabs, in this, the second week of The Herald-Chronicle’s Christmas on Us promotion, as the countdown begins for the grand prize drawing for two $1,000 prizes, and two $250 prizes to be held on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Bogren’s ticket was pulled from those collected at Four Corners Steakhouse and Lounge and the number was hidden in the Osage Chevrolet Buick advertisement. Bogren said he would likely use the money to buy groceries from Jerry’s Thriftway, one of the participating sponsors.

Unclaimed numbers included one from Jerry’s Thriftway, hidden in the RJ’s Auction ad. Another, from El Mezcal, was hidden in the Sloop Sales and Hook’s Repair ad. A fourth ticket number, from Overbrook BP and Wheat State Pizza, was hidden in the From the Heart ad.

This week, shoppers will find hidden ticket numbers in advertisements found on pages 2B, 3B and 4B. Simply check ticket numbers received from participating sponsors against the numbers hidden in the ads, and bring winning tickets to The Herald-Chronicle by 5 p.m. Monday to claim $50 instantly in scrip money.

Through the Christmas on Us giveaway, Osage County merchants are making sure that shopping at home pays. Not only do shoppers save money, gas and frustration by shopping at home, they have a chance to win part of the $3,000 being given away in the contest.

For every $10 spent at participating merchants, shoppers get a ticket. Those who don’t buy, or who are just looking, can get a free ticket each week by stopping by The Herald-Chronicle’s office, the Lyndon Carnegie Library, Overbrook Library or the Carbondale Library. No purchase is necessary to win.

The grand prize drawing will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, in downtown Osage City. Doughnuts, hot chocolate and coffee will be offered by The Herald-Chronicle staff, in appreciation of merchants and local shoppers who have made the contest possible.

You must be present to win, and the scrip money is only good at participating merchants. It is simple to win but tough to decide where to spend your money with the 29 merchants participating in this exciting contest.
