Responders remove the roof of a 2004 Kia to extract Denise Ogle, Scranton, after Monday’s head-on collision.


Denise Ogle, 50, Scranton, was critically injured when her 2004 Kia was struck in a head-on collision at 6:20 p.m. Monday night on U.S. Highway 75.

The accident occurred at mile marker 137.5, approximately three miles south of Carbondale. According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Ogle’s vehicle was headed southbound in the northbound lane when it met a large utility van belonging to Apria Healthcare, driven by James Robison, 44, Topeka. Robison swerved to miss Ogle’s car, but struck head-on in the center of the highway. Robison was not injured.Both Ogle and Robison were wearing safety restraints.

County and state emergency personnel closed both lanes of the highway for about an hour during the extrication.

A Stormont-Vail spokeperson said Ogle was in critical care Monday evening.
