Burlingame will be searching for a new city administrator after last week’s announcement by Flip Hutfles that he is resigning.

Hutfles’ announcement was made public after the Burlingame City Council held a second executive session to discuss personnel at the Sept. 2 meeting.

Hutfles, who has served as city administrator since January 2007, declined to reveal his future plans this week, although he confirmed he would be leaving Burlingame.

“I just needed to go on to a new direction,” Hutfles said Tuesday morning. “The budget is approved, the water project has begun, so it’s a good time to leave.”

He said his resignation was “a last minute decision,” and “we’ve still got a couple things we’re working on.”

Hutfles said his contract required a 30-day notice before he resigned; his resignation is effective Oct. 3.

He said he would be willing to assist the city council in searching for a replacement.

“I will help them as much as I can,” he said. “Even when I’m no longer here, I’m willing to provide my assistance.”

He said the council has made no decisions regarding replacing him or beginning a search for a new administrator.

Following Hutfles’ announcement, the council voted unanimously to accept his resignation.
