Votes canvassed; results confirmed

The results of only one race changed after Friday’s canvassing of votes by the Osage County Commission.

Following the counting of provisional votes, the race for Superior Township trustee ended in a tie between Ken Lippert and Dale Stromgren; each had 46 votes. Although the winner could have been decided by drawing a name from a hat or flipping a coin, one candidate made the decision easy. According to the Osage County Clerk’s office, after the candidates were notified, Stromgren decided to decline the position, leaving Lippert as the winner.

Osage County’s ballot counting lasted into the early morning hours of Aug. 6 due to malfunctioning electronic ballot counting machines, which required a portion of the votes to be counted by hand. Election workers reported they finished counting by 1:30 a.m.

“We got it done and we got it right,” said Osage County Clerk Rhonda Beets early that morning.

In all the other races, the winners of the Aug. 5 primary election remained as reported in last week’s Herald-Chronicle.
