Randall Finlay

July 20, 1952 – March 7, 2017

CARBONDALE — Randall Finlay, Carbondale, entered peacefully into the Lord’s arms on March 7, 2017, with family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64.

He was born July 20, 1952, the son of Richard “Dick” and Jean Robbins Finlay. He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 1970.

He married Cindy Eylander Finlay May 13, 1973. She survives.

Phyllis Mae Carley Shelton

Jan. 25, 1936 – March 8, 2017

CARBONDALE — Phyllis Mae Carley Shelton, Carbondale, went to be with her Lord and Savior March 8, 2017. She was 81.

She was born Jan. 25, 1936, at Wamego, the daughter of Charles Franklin Carley and Mildred Irene Gafford Carley. She graduated from Wamego High School in 1954.

She was a homemaker. She was involved with Girl Scouts, 4-H, and women’s fellowship groups. She was a member of Community UCC Church in Carbondale.

Melvern council moves forward with condemnation

MELVERN — The Melvern City Council approved a motion to begin condemnation proceedings for a residence at 136 S.E. Blake Street in Melvern.

The council heard from Anne Grey, director of the Osage County Health Department, who presented a report on her inspection of the residence. Grey said she found the structure unfit for human habitation, and recommended it be condemned.

Grant sought to replace west Market Street

OSAGE CITY — The Osage City Council was presented options Feb. 28, during the regular meeting, for grants available through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Connecting Links program.

“I wanted to speak to you, briefly, about a potential funding opportunity for street maintenance work,” said Jason Hoskinson, project engineer for BG Consultants, Kansas City. “Ultimately, we’d be looking for direction from council if you want to proceed with a project.”

Bearcats overtake Osborne in first round of state

HAYS — The Burlingame Bearcats continued their state run with a 63-53 overtime win against Osborne in first round of the Class 1A Division I State Basketball Tournament Thursday in Hays.

The Bearcats trailed for 32 minutes and 25 seconds of the game, with Osborne leading by as many as 9 points in the third quarter.

Linda Ann Miles Sisney

Dec. 31, 1945 – March 6, 2017

Linda Ann Miles Sisney, Springfield, Mo., died March 6, 2017, at home after a long battle with cancer. She was 72.

She was born Dec. 31, 1945, at Osage City, the daughter of Francis and Gladys Miles, Osage City. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1963.

She married Dale Smitha, Harveyville. They later divorced. She married Jerry Huffman, Osage City. He died in 2009. She latter married Larry Sisney.
