OVERBROOK ¬— William Glenn Tudor died October 16, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. He was 95.

He was born June 7, 1924, at Lakeview, Ohio, the oldest of eight children of Omer William and Pauline Houchin Tudor. He graduated from Belle Center, Ohio, high school in 1942 and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Wright Patterson Field before joining the Navy in 1943. He served on the USS Lake Champlain during World War II.

Norma L. Allison

July 22, 1921 – Oct. 14, 2019

TOPEKA — Norma L. Allison, Lyndon, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 98.

She was born July 22, 1921, on the family farm near Vassar, the daughter of Henry and Edna Kraft Scheid. She grew up around Vassar and lived southeast of Lyndon for over 60 years.

She worked on the farm, was a homemaker, worked at Peterson's Nursing Home, Osage City, for a time and was the organist for Melvern and Quenemo United Methodist Churches. She also volunteered at Help House, Lyndon.

Karen I. Hesseltine

Died – Oct. 11, 2019

TOPEKA — Karen I. Hesseltine, Overbrook, died Oct. 11, 2019 at Midland Hospice Care Center, Topeka. She was 70.

She was the daughter of Merlin C. Bevitt and Doris N. Parrish Bevitt. She grew up and was a lifelong resident of the Overbrook area, graduating from Overbrook Rural High School with the class of 1967.

She was a teacher’s aide at Overbrook and Scranton Attendance Centers from 1980 to her retirement in 2012.

Mary Ann Goodrich

Oct. 1, 1934 – Oct. 12, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Mary Ann Goodrich, Lyndon, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 85.

She was born Oct. 1, 1934, on the family farm near Melvern, the daughter of Harold C. and Sarah Smith Shelinbarger. She graduated from Melvern High School in 1953, and attended Topeka Beauty School.

She owned and operated Bluebird Beauty Salon, Lyndon, until 1967. She had resided near Lyndon for over 56 years.

Mary French

Dec. 13, 1932 – Oct. 13, 2019

CARBONDALE — Mary French, Carbondale, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019. She was 86.

Mary Lee Webb was born Dec. 13, 1932, at Kansas City, the daughter of William and Edith Conner Webb. She was a graduate of Wyandotte High School, Kansas City.

She managed the business side of the family farm at Carbondale, for most of her life and worked intermittently as a program worker for SRS. Family and friends were her passion and delight.

Virgil Scheid

Dec. 27, 1931 – Oct. 7, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Virgil Scheid, Vassar, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2019, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 27, 1931, near Vassar, the youngest child of Henry and Edna Kraft Scheid. He lived most all of his life around the Vassar community.

Edwin Tijerina

March 3, 1930 – Sept. 11, 2019

TOPEKA — Edwin Tijerina, Harveyville, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at a Topeka hospice facility. He was 89.

He was born March 3, 1930, at Hacienda del Refugio, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the son of Clemente Tijerina and Amada Tijerina Gonzalez. He was the youngest of 10 siblings.

He received his BA degree in Spanish and drama from Southeastern State University, Durant, Okla. He earned his Master’s degree in foreign language and English through Emporia State University.

Pamela Rose Wideman

June 29, 1957 – Oct. 6, 2019

TOPEKA — Pamela Rose Wideman, Carbondale, went to be with the Lord, Sunday Oct. 6, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 62.

She was born Saturday, June 29, 1957, to Florence Disney and Edward Ferry at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She grew up in Topeka with her mom and younger brother, Charlie.

She enjoyed growing up very close to her Grandma Disney and extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially her aunt, Sarah, who was only 12 years older than her.
