Mary Singular

Sept. 8, 1920 – Aug. 5, 2015

TOPEKA—Mary Singular, Lyndon, died Aug. 5, 2015, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 94.

She was born Sept. 8, 1920, at Americus, the only daughter of Bruce and Mildred Beck Carlson. She grew up in Americus and had four brothers. She lived in Burlington for a short time before moving to Lyndon in 1954, where she lived ever since.

She attended Emporia Teacher’s College for elementary education. She belonged to the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority while at Emporia. She taught at Holton for a time.

Along with her husband Bill, she owned and operated Lyndon Lumber Company from 1955 to 1975. She was a member of Lyndon United Methodist Church and Friends of the Library.

After retirement, they enjoyed their winters in Arizona, golfing and playing Bridge with her friends. Her passion was her love of books, reading, and sharing stories.

She married William Singular March 21, 1944, at Americus. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2006.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Bill, Bruce, Bob and Henry Carlson.

She is survived by a son, Steve Singular and wife, Joyce, Denver, Colo.; by a daughter, Nancy Singular, Marina del Rey, Calif.; and a grandson, Eric Singular, Denver, Colo.

A Celebration of Life will be 5 p.m. Aug. 12 at Lyndon United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Aug. 11 at Feltner Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Lyndon Cemetery.
