Nancy Jane Decock

Jan. 20, 1936 – March 28, 2014

TOPEKA—Nancy Jane Decock, Osage City, died March 28, 2014, at the Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, from complications of cancer. She was 78.

She was born Jan. 20, 1936, at Quenemo, the daughter of John and Eldora Storbeck Middleton. She grew up near Richland and had lived in Lyndon and then in Osage City for the last 46 years.

Leora Kathryn Mahaffey Burns Brewer

Sept. 19, 1938 – March 27, 2014

TOPEKA—Leora Kathryn Mahaffey Burns Brewer died March 27, 2014, at Midland Hospice Care, Topeka. She was 75.

She was born Sept. 19, 1938, at Buffalo, the daughter of Francis and Cleora Louk Burns. She had lived in Melvern and Topeka most of her life.

Reta Cain

Oct. 6, 1950 – March 24, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Reta Cain, Osage City, died March 24, 2014 at Osage City. She was 63.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. April 5 at Flint Hills Baptist Church, 835 Lakin St., Osage City.

Joseph G. Lundholm Jr.

Feb. 5, 2014

GAITHERSBURG, MD.—Joseph Gideon Lundholm Jr. died Feb. 5 at his home at Asbury Methodist Village, Gaithersburg, Md. due to pneumonia and sepsis. He was 88.

He was born at Emporia. He graduated from Osage City High School with the class of 1943. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1946 and a master’s degree in 1948, both in engineering physics from Kansas State University. In 1956, he received a PhD, also in engineering physics, from North Carolina State University.

L. Dale Tindell

Dec. 3, 1934 – March 18, 2014

WESTMORELAND, N.H.—Dale Tindell, Keene, N.H. died March 18, 2014, at Maplewood Nursing Home, Westmoreland, N.H. He was 79.

Services were March 22 at Keene, N.H. Burial will take place at a later date.

Adelia Jane Barbee Huston

March 3, 1915 ¬– March 22, 2014

OVERBROOK—Adelia Jane Barbee Huston, Overbrook, died March 22, 2014, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 99.

She was born March 3, 1915, at Twin Mound, the daughter of Jacob and Mabel Montfoort.

She was employed at Supply Depot during the 1940’s. She had worked at the Neese Mercantile, Richland, for approximately 20 years. She moved to Topeka in 1960, and began working for Sears as a cashier in the credit department until she retired. She was a member of the Quivira Heights Church of Christ.

Elsie M. Rukes

Nov. 13, 1924 – March 23, 2014

TOPEKA—Elsie M. Rukes, Topeka, died March 23, 2014, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was 89.

She was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Lyndon, the daughter of Earl and Erma Frazier Mickelson. She graduated from Lyndon High School.

She was employed by the state of Kansas for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of Al-Anon for over 40 years.

She married Jack Rukes, Dec. 24, 1945, at Overbrook. He preceded her in death on Dec. 22, 1999.

Ronald W. Dean Sr.

March 21, 2014

CARBONDALE—Ronald W. Dean Sr., Carbondale, died March 21, 2014. He was 62.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. March 28 at Crossroads Community Church, Scranton.

Eileen K. Schroeder

Aug. 27, 1930 – March 19, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Eileen K. Schroeder, Osage City, died March 19, 2014. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 27, 1930, on a farm near Trenton, Neb., the daughter of Michael and Frances Keeney. Her father died when she was 13 years old. As a result, she was largely responsible for the continued operation of the family farm, with the assistance of her older brother.

James L. Buchholz

Jan. 8, 1933 – March 17, 2014

OVERBROOK—James L “Jim” Buchholz died March 17, 2014, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. He was 81.

He was born Jan. 8, 1933, at Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Clarence V. and Anna M. Schultz Buchholz. He was raised in Wadena, Minn., and graduated from Wadena High School in 1951.

After graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1956, he went to work for the United States Postal Office in Topeka and retired as postmaster of the Carbondale office in 1988.
