Margaret Decock

Jan. 8, 1929 – Nov. 9, 2016

TOPEKA—Margaret Decock, Topeka, died Nov. 9, 2016, at Stormont Veil Hospital, Topeka. She was 87.

She was born Jan. 8, 1929, at Lyndon, the daughter of Charles and Effie Irvine. She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1947.

She married Ernest Decock June 21, 1947. He died Nov. 9, 2003.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Lawrence Irvine.

John Stephen Moeller

Dec. 2, 1948 – Nov. 6, 2016

TOPEKA—John Stephen Moeller, Carbondale, died Nov. 6, 2016 at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 67.

He was born Dec. 2, 1948, at Topeka, the son of Virgil and Margaret Houston Moeller. He graduated from the Overbrook High School, Overbrook, where he was a state medalist for the javelin. He attended Kansas State Teacher’s College, Emporia, where he played football and baseball.

He married Marsha Snyder Dec. 7, 1968, Shawnee. They shared over 48 years of marriage. She survives.

Russell E. Mundy

June 15, 1965 – Oct. 16, 2016

SCRANTON—Russell E. Mundy died Oct. 16, 2016, at his home in Scranton. He was 51.

He was born June 15, 1965, at Ottawa, the son of Burnham “Butch” and Patsy Martin Mundy.

He lived in Ottawa and Scranton most of his life. He worked in construction for many years as a sheet-rocker and in guttering installation.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy.

David S. Cain

March 18, 1957 – June 19, 2016

LYNDON—David S. Cain, Lyndon, died June 19, 2016, near Ottawa. He was 59.

He was born March 18, 1957, at Evansville, Ind., the son of Carl and Wanda Shockly Cain. He grew up in Indiana and lived in the Lyndon community for the last 20 years.

He was a truck driver until getting a job as a jailer for the Osage County Sheriff's Department. He served as Osage County Sheriff from 1993 to 1997. He worked for Torgeson Electric, Topeka, and was currently working for McElroy’s Electric.

Philip Spencer

July 23, 1938 – Nov. 2, 2016

TOPEKA—Philip Spencer, Melvern, died Nov. 2, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 78.

He was born July 23, 1938, at Stull, the son of Russell and Maud Herman Spencer. He grew up in Stull and graduated from Lawrence High School. He moved to the rural Melvern area in 1972, where he has lived since.

He was a farmer and stockman most of his life and also worked as a truck driver for the farm as well. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a staff sergeant and was a member of the Section Church of Christ, Osage City.

Orval D. Taylor

Dec. 24, 1929 – Oct. 29, 2016

CARBONDALE—Orval D. Taylor, Carbondale, died Oct. 29, 2016, at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was 86.

He was born Dec. 24, 1929, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Elton Taylor and Mildred Phillips Taylor.

He was an exemplary role model that loved his family, friends, the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing and attending the grandchildren’s activities and events. He was a skilled concrete finisher and loved farming. He was a valued friend and mentor to all and always willing to lend a hand.

Lois A. Moore

Sept. 18, 1922 – Oct. 26, 2016

OVERBROOK—Lois A. Moore, Overbrook, died Oct. 26, 2016, at her daughter’s residence. She was 94.

She was born Sept. 18, 1922, at Auburn, the daughter of Ernest Bean and Anna Carrel Bean. She was a lifelong resident of the Richland area and attended Richland Grade School and was a 1940 graduate of Overbrook Rural High School. She then attended and graduated from Dodd’s Business College, Topeka.

Warren D. Lutz

Nov. 23, 1934 – Oct. 25, 2016

TOPEKA—Warren D. Lutz, Lyndon, died Oct. 25, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas. He was 81.

He was born Nov. 23, 1934, at Peabody, the son of Alvin and Mildred Savage Lutz. He grew up in Florence, lived in Garnett and Chanute before moving to Lyndon in 1969, where he has lived since.

He graduated from Garnett High School in 1952, and received his bachelor’s degree in geology from Kansas University in 1957. He served in the U.S. Army and then began working for U.S. Geological Survey making topographical maps.

Gary Dean Laubach

Feb. 14, 1946 – Oct. 24, 2016

WAKARUSA—Gary Dean Laubach, Wakarusa, died Oct. 24, 2016, after a courageous battle with ALS. He was 70.

He was born Feb. 14, 1946, at Topeka, the son of Lorenz and Norma Laubach. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1964. He started doing auto body and paint work while still in high school and continued until he retired in 2012.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a good friend to many. He loved his 1967 Ford Mustang, his German Shepherds and his cats.

Orva Jean Greek

Nov. 17, 1939 – Oct. 14, 2016

PITTSBURG—Orva Jean entered into her heavenly home Oct. 14, 2016, at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76.

She was born Nov. 17, 1939, at Arcadia, the daughter of Orval L. Hines and Ruby Jean Moss Hines.

She married the love of her life Don F. Greek Nov. 12, 1960, at Osage City. He survives.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, quilting and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Louella Hines; and grandparents.
