Vera Knisley

Jan. 15, 1912 – Dec. 10, 2016

WAVERLY—Vera Knisley died Dec. 10, 2016, at Sunset Manor, Waverly. She was 104.

She was born Jan. 15, 1912, on the family farm near New London, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Bettie Toft Miller. She grew up around New London, where she graduated from New London High School in 1929.

She moved to California for four years until she returned to the Burlington, Iowa, area in 1940. She had lived in and around the Topeka community from 1957 to 2008 when she moved near Melvern.

Gerald D. Garrett

Aug. 14, 1939 – Dec. 6, 2016

CARBONDALE—Gerald D. Garrett, Carbondale, opened his final gate on Dec. 6, 2016. He passed away in his sleep at home. He was 77.

He was born Aug. 14, 1939, near Wakarusa, the son of Noble Glenn and Junia Geneive Perry Garrett. He was the youngest of nine siblings.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Glenn, Rex, Floyd “Buster,” and Max Garrett and a sister, Elsie June Tucker.

Jolinda Rose

January 6, 1952 – December 3, 2016

LYNDON—Jolinda Rose, 64, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Eskridge, Kansas, where she had resided since 1997.

She was born on January 6, 1952 at Vassar, Kansas the daughter of Orville and Willine Wiggins Rose.

Jolinda grew up in the Vassar and Olivet communities. She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1970.

Jolinda was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Willine and by two older brothers, Larry Rose and Donald Rose.

Warren Allen

Dec. 28, 1927 – Dec. 6, 2016

TOPEKA—Warren Allen, Lyndon, died Dec. 6, 2016, at Healthcare Resort, Topeka. He was 88.

He was born Dec. 28, 1927, at Lyndon, the son of George and Cadde White Allen. He grew up in Lyndon where he graduated from Lyndon High School in 1945.

He lived in California for many years before returning to Lyndon, where he lived until 2004, when he moved to Topeka.

Todd Osborn

July 13, 1962 – Dec. 1, 2016

VASSAR—Todd Osborn died Dec. 1, 2016, at his home near Vassar. He was 54.

He was born July 13, 1962, at Emporia, the son of Walter “Ozzy” and Dixie Wright Osborn. He grew up in Lyndon and lived most of his life there. He had lived in Ottawa before moving to Vassar.

He attended the Lyndon Schools. He worked for Ellis English Plumbing in Lyndon, Haven's Steel in Ottawa, and as a loader for Wal-Mart Distribution for the last 15 years. He was an avid fisherman and pool player.

James G. Thompson

March 25, 1923 – Dec. 3, 2016

OSAGE CITY—James G. Thompson died Dec. 3, 2016, at his home in Osage City. He was 93.

He was born March 25, 1923, at Barclay, the son of Louis C. and Gladys Walker Thompson. He graduated from Osage City High School in 1941. After high school, he started farming and continued throughout his life and dearly loved it.

He married Lenore F. Kaniper Feb. 22, 1947, in Lyon County. She survives of the home.

Janie Jewell Foster

Feb. 17, 1955 – Dec. 3, 2016

TOPEKA—Janie Jewell Foster, Topeka, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, Dec. 3, 2016, surrounded by her loved ones. She was 50.

She was born Feb. 17, 1966, at Topeka the daughter of John and Kip Jewell, Overbrook. She attended Santa Fe Trail High School, Class of 1984. She received a degree in marketing from Emporia State University in 1988.

She married Pat Foster June 8, 1990, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ottawa. He survives.

Ellis Graham

Sept. 18, 1938 – Nov. 29, 2016

EMPORIA—Ellis “John” Graham Jr., Reading, died Nov. 29, 2016, at Newman Regional Health, Emporia. He was 78.

He was born Sept. 18, 1938, on the family farm near Arvonia, the son of Ellis and Essie Smith Graham. When he was five years old, the family moved to Reading.

He attended Reading High School and graduated with the Class of 1956. He went on to further his education by attending Emporia State University and Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo.

Sidney O. Allison

Nov. 26, 2016

TOPEKA—Sidney O. "Sid" Allison, Topeka, died Nov. 26, 2016. He was. 74.

He was a loving, kind and devoted husband, and father that will be sorely missed by his family and many others. Besides being a great father to his two daughters, Kim and Anne, he was a wonderful husband to his wife of fifty years, Jan.

He had been very ill for almost 11 months and had suffered a great deal of pain. No human should have to go through what he did but when asked how he could endure such pain and suffering he replied, “I just take it one day at a time.”

Millianne Everett

July 26, 1932 – Nov. 13, 2016

TOPEKA—Millianne Everett, Lyndon, died Nov. 13, 2016, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was 84.

She was born July 26, 1932, at Emporia, the daughter of Preston and Bernice Roberts Moon. She lived in Lyndon and then Las Vegas before returning to Lyndon three years ago.

She worked as a registered nurse for the Menninger’s Foundation, Topeka.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin Parker, Lyndon, and Randall Parker, Palm Springs, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
