Olive June Greene Meggison

TOPEKA — Olive June Greene Meggison of Topeka died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Lexington Park Health and Rehab, Topeka. She was 89.

She was born July 3, 1929 in Murry, Neb., the daughter of Joseph Newton Greene and Stella Pike Greene. She grew up and attended schools in Union, Neb.

On December 28, 1936 she was united in marriage to Donald Lee Meggison. They shared over 44 years of marriage before the death of her husband on Nov. 23, 1990.

She worked for AT&T in Topeka, where she mapped out phone lines.

William Tillman

Nov. 2, 1953 – Aug. 13, 2018

EL DORADO — William "Bill" Tillman died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018 at his home in El Dorado. He was 64.

He was born Nov. 2, 1953, at Topeka, the son of John and June Miller Tillman. He grew up in Vassar and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971. He lived and raised his family in Leon and was in El Dorado for the last several years.

Doris Mae Harris Braunbeck

Aug. 2, 1933 – Aug. 12, 2018

TOPEKA — Doris Mae Harris Braunbeck, Carbondale, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, surrounded by family and friends. She was 85.

She was born Aug. 2, 1933, the daughter of Richard and Nina Harris, Auburn.

She married Donald Braunbeck Oct. 15, 1955. They were married for 51 years before his passing.

Dorothy Faye Arnold Montgomery

March 1, 1924 – Aug. 10, 2018

WICHITA - Dorothy Faye Arnold Montgomery passed into eternal life at 7:35 p.m. Aug. 10, 2018, at Wichita, with loving family at her side. She was 94.

She was born March 1, 1924, on a farm near Wakefield, the daughter of Thomas R. Arnold and Susie Manley Arnold. She resided in Clay, Shawnee and Osage counties as a child.

Jackie L. Barger

Died - Aug. 9, 2018

BURLINGTON - Jackie L. Barger, Emporia, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, at the Life Care Center, Burlington. He was 54.

Cremation is planned and celebration of life visitation will be at a later day.

Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, Lebo, is assisting the family.

Russell D. Swarts

Dec. 30, 1924 – Aug. 8, 2018

TOPEKA — Russell D. Swarts, Topeka, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018. He was 93.

He was born Dec. 30, 1924, at Topeka, the son of Harry and Jessie M. Benton Swarts. He was a graduate of Osage City High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He married Ellen C. Holden Oct. 6, 1948, at Topeka. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2009.

Anice Oneda Benton Waltrip

Jan. 23 1926 - July 9, 2018

TOPEKA - Anice Oneda Benton Waltrip, Carbondale, died Monday, July 9,2018, at Midland Care Hospice, Topeka. She was 92.

She was born Jan. 23, 1926, at French Town, Ark., the daughter of the late Cora Carr and Dewitt Benton.

She married Charles Waltrip April 25, 1943, at Salem, Ark. This past April Charles and her celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. He survives of the home.

She worked for several years in the cafeteria as a cook for the Scranton Grade School.

Helen Louise Hendricks

June 3, 1930 - Aug. 1 2018

POTWIN - Helen Louise Hendricks, long-time resident of Potwin, died Aug. 1, 2018 from a brief illness, surrounded by her children and other family. She was 88.

She was born June 3, 1930, at Wichita, the daughter of Emil (Howard) and Florence Ruth Henderson. She attended Potwin High School.

She married Norris "Jim" Hendricks, June 10, 1947. They were married 61 years before Jim's death in 2008.

Betty Jean Standiferd

Nov. 6, 1923 – July 31, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Betty Jean Standiferd, Lebo, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 94.

She was born Nov. 6, 1923, at Lebo, the daughter of William Fred and Laura Myonette Rutledge Rosine. She attended the Sunny Knoll District No. 18 Country School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Lebo High School with the class of 1941.

Bruce Wayne Akins

April 24, 1950 – July 30, 2018

TOPEKA — Bruce Wayne Akins died July 30, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 68.

He was born April 24, 1950, at Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Keith and Reeta Akins. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Allied-Signal, Phoenix, Ariz.; Payless ShoeSource, Topeka; and Flint Hills Construction, Topeka.
