Henrietta Bernadine Heiman Quaney

BURLINGAME — Henrietta Bernadine Heiman Quaney, Burlingame, died Dec. 27, 2018, at her home in Burlingame, KS. She was 86.

She was born Dec. 28, 1931, in rural Seneca, the daughter of Frank T. and Josephine Buessing Heiman. She attended school at St. Mary’s High School, St. Benedict.

After a time as a nanny, she moved to Topeka, and began work at Vern’s Cafe. She met the love of her life at a CYO dance in Topeka.

Tamra Jo Arb Foster

Sept. 8, 1959 – Dec. 22, 2018

TOPEKA — Tamra Jo Arb Foster, Topeka, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018. She was 59.

She was born Sept. 8, 1959, the daughter of Howard and JoAnn Fanning Arb. She graduated from Melvern High School in 1977, as the class salutatorian. She earned her bachelors degree in nursing from Washburn University, December 1982.

She married Dean Foster Sept. 3, 1993. He preceded her in death.

She worked as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital and Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center. She was a member of Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Bonnie Marie Nelson

Dec. 27, 1957 – Dec. 17, 2018

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Bonnie Marie Nelson, Independence, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at her residence. She was 60.

She was born Dec. 27, 1957, at Wellington, the daughter of Glenwood and Bernice Hunt Barlow and was raised by her mother and stepfather, Walter Wyant. They later moved to Burlingame, where she graduated from high school in 1975 and receiving her LPN from Flint Hills Area Vocational Technical School, Emporia.

Janice Wright

Nov. 23, 1932 – Dec. 15, 2018

COUNCIL GROVE — Janice Wright, Osage City, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at Diversacare Healthcare, Council Grove. She was 86.

She was born Nov. 23, 1932, at Osage City, the daughter of John and Eva Ricca Martin. She lived all of her life in Osage City, where she graduated from Osage City High School.

She worked at Supply Depot at Forbes Field. She also helped take care of many children over the years. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and was a Girl Scout leader for several years.

Donald Sloop

Jan. 28, 1930 – Dec. 18, 2018

TOPEKA — Donald "Don" Sloop, Lyndon, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 88.

He was born Jan. 28, 1930, in rural Lyndon, the son of Lyle and Berneita Fanning Sloop. He lived all of his life in and around the Lyndon community. He graduated from Lyndon High School in 1949.

He was a farmer and stockman and owned and operated Sloop Sales and Service near Lyndon for 30 years. Don served in the U.S. Army.

TOPEKA — Don Sloop, Lyndon, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 88.

Funeral services are pending for Saturday, Dec. 22 at Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon.

Eldridge Scott Berry

March 25, 1927 – Dec. 15, 2018

OVERBROOK — Eldridge Scott Berry, Scranton, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. He was 91.

He was born March 25, 1927, at the family farm in Harveyville, the son of Eldridge Robert and Mattie Dorthea Brown Berry. He graduated from Harveyville High School. He served as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Willene Charlotte Cole

Feb. 9, 1930 – Dec. 10, 2018

EMPORIA — Willene Charlotte Cole, Emporia, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, at her home. She was 88.

She was born Feb. 9, 1930, at Oneida, the daughter of William and Anna Marie Keck Ackerman. Dedicated to the education of children, she began teaching at the age of 17 and received her master’s in education from Emporia State University.

Harold W. Scheetz

Dec. 21, 1930 – Dec. 11, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Harold W. Scheetz, Osage City, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at an Osage City nursing home. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 21, 1930, at Topeka, the son of George and Hettie Michael Scheetz. He grew up and lived on the family farm in rural Burlingame, where he farmed most of his life. He was baptized Jan. 5, 1953, as a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.

He married Beverly J. Priddy June 12, 1965. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Scheetz Jr.; and a sister, Mary Jane Rowley.

Kenneth Adam Harred

Dec. 13, 1965 ¬– Nov. 26, 2018

KANSAS CITY — Kenneth Adam Harred died Nov. 26, 2018, at KU Medical Center, Kansas City, surrounded by his children. He was 52.

He was born Dec. 13, 1965, at Topeka. He dedicated over 20 years to the National Guard, both as a reservist and later full-time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, creating duck/goose calls, hand-carved decoys and leather working.

He was preceded in death by his mother, June.
