Eugene Robinson

Dec. 1, 1918 – June 2, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Eugene Robinson died Friday, June 2, 2017, at Vintage Park, Osage City. He was 98.

He was born Dec. 1, 1918, at Burlingame, the son of Fitzhugh and Lucille Griffin Robinson.

Gene, as he was known to all, grew up in Burlingame, lived many years in the Kansas City area before retiring to Holiday Cove on Pomona Lake. He had been at Vintage Park in Osage City for the last several years.

Elizabeth Miller

Oct. 22, 1920 – June 2, 2017

TOPEKA — Elizabeth Miller, 96, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor in Topeka, Kansas. She was 96.

She was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Lyon County, the daughter of Charles and Nellie Thomas Gilliland. She lived in Lyndon for 56 years before moving to Topeka in 2005.

She was a homemaker most of her life, but she had worked at Boeing in Wichita during World War II, at Smitty’s Dress Shop in Lyndon, and she was the Lyndon city treasurer for two years.

Adelia Elizabeth Pearson

March 15, 1919 – May 31, 2017

TOPEKA — Adelia Elizabeth Fager Pearson, Miller, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at McCrite Plaza, Topeka, following a brief illness. She was 98.

She was born March 25, 1919, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Fager, rural Miller. Her grandparents and parents were among Swedish immigrants who formed the community of Stotler near the Lyon/Osage county line.

Marjorie L. Kleier

Jan. 10, 1924 – May 30, 2017

OVERBROOK — Marjorie L. Kleier, Carbondale, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 93.

She was born Jan. 10, 1924, at Bassett, the daughter of Samuel Elum and Rose Leslie Creviston. She graduated from Iola High School in 1943.

She was an assistant librarian for the Carbondale Public Library for almost 20 years. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for almost 60 years. She was also a member of Carbondale Harmonettes.

Kenneth Eugene Newton Jr.

April 18, 1948 – May 27, 2017

EMPORIA — Kenneth Eugene Newton, Jr., Reading, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. He was 69.

He was born April 18, 1948, at Emporia, the son of Kenneth E. and Helen Marie Geraghty Newton, Sr. He graduated from Reading High School in 1966.

He married Mary Ann Jones July 11, 1970, at Emporia. She survives of the home.

He owned and operated Newton Oil Company and also worked as an auctioneer and woodworker.

Gerald Scheid

May 16, 1919 – May 19, 2017

TOPEKA — Gerald Scheid, Vassar, died May 19, 2017, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 98.

He was born May 16, 1919, near Vassar, the son of Henry and Edna Kraft Scheid. He lived all of his life around the Vassar community.

He was a farmer and stockman. He worked for the Kansas Forestry Department planting trees around Pomona and Melvern lakes. He also worked at Pomona State Park and Rural Water District No. 3.

Carol Ann Northcott Fischer

Jan. 17, 1942 – May 14, 2017

OVERBROOK — Carol Ann Northcott Fischer, Overbrook, died Sunday, May 14, 2017, at Brookside Retirement Community. Overbrook. She was 75.

She was born Jan. 17, 1942, at Emporia, the daughter of Clarence Russell Northcott and Esther Fern Baxter Northcott. She grew up in the Waverly area and graduated from Waverly High School with the class of 1959. She moved to the Overbrook community in 1963 with her husband Cliff. She was a lifelong homemaker.

Thomas Orde Sapp

Dec. 19, 1967 — May 12, 2017

TOPEKA — Thomas Orde Sapp, Osage City, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. He was 49.

Tommy Orde Sapp was born Dec. 19, 1967, at Emporia, the son of Thomas Francis and Connie Jo Crocker Sapp. He was a car washer at Branine Motors, Osage City.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

He will be forever remembered by his mother, Connie Jo Gilliland, Osage City; two brothers, Kenneth Sapp, Burlington, and Paul Allen, Osage City.

Daisy Lucille Kunkel Schneider

May 14, 1917 – May 11, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Daisy Lucille Kunkel Schneider, Lyndon, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 99.

She was born May 14, 1917, at Scranton, the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth Harrison Kunkel. She grew up in Scranton, and lived on a farm near Lyndon and then in Lyndon since 1971.

She was a homemaker and worked as an aide at Hilltop Nursing Home, Lyndon. She was a member of the Vassar United Methodist Church.

Faye Aleen Provost

Nov. 15, 1943 – May 11, 2017

AUBURN — Faye Aleen Provost, Burlingame, passed away peacefully May 11, 2017, at Homestead of Auburn with her family and loved ones by her side. She was 73.

She was born on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1943, at Burlingame. She attended school in Burlingame, graduating from Burlingame High School in 1961.

During her school years, she made many lifelong friends that she treasured deeply. She went on to attend Clark’s Business School, Topeka, and subsequently began a career as a legal secretary.
