Theta Elizabeth Vorse

May 9, 1927 – Sept. 20, 2018

TOPEKA — Theta Elizabeth Vorse, Topeka, died the evening of Sept. 20, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 91.

She was born May 9, 1927, on the family farm in Harveyville, the daughter of Edd and Annie Davis. She attended Harveyville High School and after graduation attended Clark's Business College.

She held several jobs including Santa Fe Railway, Sunny Elevation School and Wilson's Turkey Farm where she worked for 37 years.

Donna Sue Ladewig

Nov. 11, 1954 – Sept. 22, 2018

HUTCHINSON — Donna Sue Ladewig died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, at Hospice House. She was 63.

She was born Nov. 11, 1954, at Emporia, the daughter of Dean and Martha Pickering Kuykendall. She graduated from Osage City High School and Emporia State University. She worked as a receptionist at Via Christi Hutchinson Rehabilitation and then as a billing/coding specialist for Hutchinson Clinic.

She married Robert C. Ladewig Jr., May 20, 1978, at Osage City. He survives.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Kathryn Ann Woodbury

May 6, 1935 – Sept. 19, 2018

OVERBROOK — Kathryn Ann “Kay” Woodbury, Quenemo, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, at Fields of Brookside, Overbrook. She was 83.

She was born May 6, 1935, at Emporia, the daughter of J. Manuel and Marie White Hughes. She grew up in Emporia and graduated from Emporia High School in 1953. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from Emporia State University in 1957 and was a teacher of English and foreign languages in Wichita and Osage City. She received her master’s degree from Emporia State University in 1962.

Shirley Maxine Lovett Hodges

Jan. 1, 1938 – Sept. 13, 2018

EMPORIA — Shirley Maxine Lovett Hodges died early Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at her home in Emporia. She was 80.

She was born Jan. 1, 1938, at Olivet, the daughter of Homer and Wilma Hamilton Lovett. She attended Olivet High School and graduated with the class of 1955. Shortly after school she began working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

Don Masenthin

Aug. 27, 1941 – Sept. 12, 2018

TOPEKA — Don Masenthin died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at his home in Topeka. He was 77.

He was born Aug. 27, 1941, on a farm near Vassar, the son of Walter and Lydia Poertner Masenthin. He grew up on a farm near Lyndon and Vassar and lived in Burlingame, Lyndon and Wichita before moving to Topeka.

Marilyn Pollom Adams

June 9, 1932 – Sept. 6, 2018

LAWRENCE — Marilyn Pollom Adams died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at her home. She was 86.

She was born June 9, 1932, at Lawrence, the daughter of Cleatis and Marguerite Pollom. She attended public schools in Lawrence and graduated from Kansas University with a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational therapy. She later added a degree in music education from Emporia State University.

Leitha Farwell

May 13, 1936 – Sept. 7, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Leitha Farwell, Lyndon, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 82.

She was born May 13, 1936, at Peoria, Ill., the daughter of Wilbur and Clara Tunis Light. She grew up in Dunlap, Ill., lived in Peoria, Ill., Topeka and Lyndon. The last four years she wintered in Venice, Fla., and summered in Lyndon.

Laura Louise Miles

Dec. 25, 1931 – Sept. 2, 2018

BURLINGAME — Laura Louise Miles, Burlingame, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. She was 86.

She was born Dec. 25, 1931, at Manhattan, the daughter of Harry Channing and Laura Maude Willfoung Kimball. She grew up near Pillsbury Crossing and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1949.

Gwen Spencer

Feb. 27, 1939 – Sept. 1, 2018

BURLINGTON — Gwen Spencer, Melvern, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington. She was 79.

She was born Feb. 27, 1939, at Bethesda, Md., the daughter of Harold and Carolyn Crum Duvall. She lived near Melvern since 1972, having lived in the Stull area before that.

She was a homemaker, worked for the H.G. Lee Company in Ottawa for several years, Casey's in Lyndon for 19 years and always helped on the family farm. She was a member of the Section Church of Christ in Osage City and E.H.U. at Stull.

Floyd Edwin Henderson

March 5, 1929 – Aug. 30, 2018

MAPLE HILL — Floyd Edwin Henderson entered his eternal reward Thursday, Aug. 30 at his home near Maple Hill. He was 89.

He was born March 5, 1929, at Wakarusa, the son of Sam and Hazel Thompson Henderson. He was raised on the family farm east of Auburn on Urish Road and attended school at Six Mile schoolhouse through eighth grade and graduated from Auburn Rural High School with the class of 1947.

He attended Auburn Presbyterian Church as a boy and came to faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age.
