Arvonia foundation to participate in match day

The Arvonia Historic Preservation Society has been chosen to be a part of Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day.

“This is quite an honor and a good opportunity for us to raise funds for our work in the Arvonia community,” said Susan Atchison, member of the preservation society. “We have two projects we will be working on in the near future. The first is the restoration of the pews and desks. We have a Heritage Trust Fund grant, this is a part of the project that they will not fund. We will also be starting work on the Arvonia Town Hall next year. This is a big project that will benefit the community and surrounding area.”

The society plans to add plumbing to the building and open the hall for event rentals. The improvements will be benefited through the match day event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Flint Hills Mall.

“We would love for you to stop by and see us Monday at the Flinthills Mall,” Atchison said. “Match Day gives you the opportunity to donate and a certain percentage of that money to be matched.”

The society will be giving out samples of Welsh cakes at the event.

Donations may be made in person during the event, or by check, made payable to the Emporia Community Foundation with Arvonia in the memo, dated Nov. 14 and sent to AHPS, 8090 West 323rd St., Osage City, KS 66523.
